Lip Reduction

The science bit

What is a Lip Reduction?

Some people are self-conscious about having a large upper lip, a large lower lip or both. The only way to reduce the size of your lips is via surgery. Lip reduction can be achieved by removing part of the lip from inside the mouth or, in some cases, removing skin from above the lip line.

What Can I Expect From Lip Reduction?

We make an incision under anaesthetic, then skilfully remove the right amount of skin to create a neater, smaller lip.

How Long Does Lip Reduction Last?

This is a permanent procedure for those whose lips are out of proportion with the other features on their face, or for those who simply don’t like the fullness of their lips.

What Are the Side Effects of a Lip Reduction?

The mouth area has a rich blood supply, so you will get a fair amount of swelling and bruising. You might want to take time off work while your mouth heals, and it’s really important to keep up excellent oral hygiene while you recover, to avoid infection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is The Recovery Time?
Because you use your mouth for eating, you may need to change what you eat to a soft diet for a while. We will need to remove your stitches at the right stage, something you’ll need to return to the clinic for, and we’ll give you antibiotics and Arnica to assist with your recovery. It can take up to 14 days before all the swelling and bruising goes down, for you to resume a more varied diet, and for you to return to work.
How Will I Feel?
Once the swelling has gone down and the healing process is completed, you’ll feel less self-conscious about your lips and more confident thanks to your new look.
