What causes skin to age?

For many people the younger they look the better they feel about themselves. But age is an unstoppable process! As the body ages, so does the skin. Sun exposure, hormones, smoking and hereditary factors all play a part in the way we age. As our skin gets older we lose hyaluronic acid, a natural occurring substance in our skin. It also loses fat so looks less plump and smooth. While these changes are taking place gravity is also at work, pulling at the skin causing it to sag.

Youthful skin is rich in hyaluronic acid, a substance that binds water and hydrates the skin to create softness and fullness. Different Types of Fillers

Restylane ™

Restylane is a proven dermal filler that's been giving great, safe, long lasting effects to women and men for a decade. When injected into the skin, Restylane gives your own hyaluronic acid a helping hand, instantly boosting the skin's hydration system to restore volume and lift the skin, softening the appearance of lines.

Teosyal ™

The Teosyal gel range is known for preventing and instantly correcting wrinkles and hollows. A highly effective facial filler, Teosyal has an immediate lifting and volume-producing effect that redefines your face's curves and contours. It's nice to know that Teosyal guarantees the purity of its gels, taking purity far beyond the standards required by legislation.

Juvederm Ultra ™

Juvederm Ultra is a new category of dermal filler with hyaluronic acid. It contains lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, to make the whole injection process much more comfortable. The results can last up to a year and it's one of our most popular facial fillers.

What can I expect?

This treatment takes approximately 30-45 minutes depending on the area treated. With some dermal fillers, we'll apply a numbing cream half an hour before carrying out your treatment. Tiny injections are then introduced under the skin to lift the line, wrinkle or facial contour to the desired correction level.

The number of treatments needed varies from 1-3 depending on the amount of correction required to achieve the desired effect.

Possible Risks and Side Effects

Following the treatment, you may have some redness at the injection site. You might also get slight discomfort or swelling at the needle's point of entry. This usually disappears within 6-24 hours without needing treatment.  However, if this persists for longer than 48 hours you should contact the clinic for further advice. There is no reason why you shouldn't continue with your social life after the treatment - just cover up with a spot of mineral -based make-up such as Jane Iredale.

If you've never had a facial filler treatment before, it's probably better not to arrange to go to a special function within a couple of days of your treatment. There isn't a fixed recovery period but you should be able to resume normal activities as soon as you leave the clinic. It's best not to go to the gym or swimming for 24 hours afterwards.

Success Rate

This is a popular treatment for both men and women aged 18-75 who don't want to undergo surgery... but would love a subtler, refreshed, rejuvenated look. The results are immediate and can last anything from 6 months to a year, after which you can have another treatment to top up the effect.

Once you've tried a temporary filler you might like to try a semi-permanent filler like Radiesse, or a facial volumiser called Sculptra.
