Leading Brighton cosmetic clinic responds to price slash article

In a direct response to the article in The Argus of 4th January 2011 entitled: ‘Sussex clinic offers cut-price plastic surgery on plastic’, Jackie Knight, medical director and clinic practitioner at leading Brighton cosmetic clinic A New You, disagrees entirely with this approach and will not be changing the clinic’s pricing structure.

“The same time, professional expertise and care of service is given before, during and after a consultation” Jackie said, “and we are not going to change that just because the January sales are on. We are more concerned about the client, their reason for wanting a procedure and whether or not it’s the right thing for them.

Our initial free consultation is sufficiently in-depth and bespoke so we offer the right level of advice and care for each client – and we will always ask them to take time out to think carefully about the procedure before taking things any further, or highlight if we feel there are healthcare or mental health issues which need addressing first.”

The article stated that surgeons are offering people January sales and credit cards to pay for cosmetic surgery on plastic, but said that mental health experts have condemned the move to slash the price of consultations which they fear could encourage people with low self esteem to feel pressured into going under the knife. The private clinic mentioned is advertising cut price consultations for just £40 in January and the advert on their website also promises to help patients fund their operations by issuing them with their own credit cards.

“Naturally we are running a business” added Jackie Knight, “but we also have a duty of care towards all our clients to ensure they are having treatment for the right reasons and with a view to achieving the right outcomes, rather than simply addressing commercial goals”.

A New You is based in Trafalgar Street, Brighton, and offers an extensive range of around 70 surgical and non-surgical procedures carried out by qualified specialists (such as British Association of Plastic Surgeons [BAPS] for plastic surgery) recognised by the NHS. Jackie Knight is a registered general nurse (RGN).
