What is Sculptra™ ?
Sculptra TM is a collagen stimulator that reduces lines, wrinkles and folds and replaces the fullness of the face that has been lost by the ageing process. Sculptra TM works by stimulating your own facial collagen production to replenish your skin, providing a natural looking result giving you a fuller, younger looking face. It works gradually to restore what has been lost and once your treatment plan is complete, the results can last for more than 3 years.
What is different about Sculptra™ ?
Common temporary fillers do not provide long term reduction of wrinkles and creases and their results are often short-lived; meaning that you may have to return many times to treat the same line again.
Sculptra™ works gradually to give a natural effect. Usually 2 – 3 treatments are required and results should be noticeable after approximately 6 weeks, (however in some patients this may take longer or require more treatments).
Clinical studies have shown that the results of Sculptra™ can last up to 3 years, significant longer than many other injectable treatments. No allergy testing is required before treatment unlike some other products. The main ingredient of SculptraTM . Poly Lactic Acid, has been used in medicine for over 25 years and has a good safety profile.
Suitable areas for Sculptra TM :
Unlike some dermal fillers which will only treat individual lines and wrinkles Sculptra™ actually treats most areas of your face that maybe concerning you, such as :
- General wrinkles and folds
- Softening Lines between your nose and mouth (nasolabial folds)
- Lifting lines around the corners of your mouth
- Wrinkles in the cheeks and chin
- Sunken cheeks
- Recessed temple area
- Jowls
The Procedure
A full medical history is taken. At your initial consultation an effective numbing cream is always applied prior to treatment and the product is mixed with a numbing solution to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. The treatment consists of multiple small injections to the face and can be performed in a morning or afternoon session.
Possible Side Effects
The most common side effects include;
- Redness around the areas treated – this can easily be covered with mineral make up immediately after the treatment.
- Bruising & swelling – these side effects usually resolve within 2-7 days. We recommend a special cream that should be massaged into the area treated twice a day to alleviate these symptoms.
- Tenderness & discomfort –this will subside within 24 hours of having the treatment. Taking a couple of paracetomol will help with any immediate discomfort.
- Small bumps – little bumps can be felt under the skin in the areas treated. You will notice them when you press on the skin. Massaging post treatment will disperse these lumps and is a very important part of achieving your optimum result
Side effects can be avoided or reduced if you ensure you have treatment by someone who has completed the Sculptra TM training programme and you follow your proper aftercare tips.

Success Rates
At your first treatment visit, it may appear that Sculptra TM has worked immediately because of the swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra™ . In a few days, when the swelling goes down and the water is absorbed by your body you may look as you did before your treatment. Sculptra™ takes time to work, results should be noticeable after approximately 6 weeks. You will then be reviewed within 4 weeks of your first treatment. However to obtain the optimum results, 2 -3 treatments maybe required. Unlike other facial treatments which require top ups at the end of your recommend Sculptra™ programme, the results can lasts from 2 – 3 years and in some cases longer. This is a very long lasting safe & successful treatment often referred to as the non surgical liquid facelift.
