Veinwave
Veinwave is a technique for treating fine thread veins, also known as telangiectasia. Using thermocoagulation - a heat-based technique - Veinwave has been cleared with flying colours by the USA's Federal Drug Administration organisation so it's extremely safe. If you've had no success with lasers and other light based systems, Veinwave could be your ideal solution. It's relatively painless, there's no risk of bruising, scarring or pigmentation, and treatment can be completed in under an hour.
Who is it suitable for?
Men and women who suffer from broken red/capillaries on the face and in particular around the nose. These can occur at any age and are often hereditary, or a result of trauma or excessive sun exposure. They can also affect people who drink heavily.
What can I expect?
The broken vein is treated with a small microwave current which sets up an inflammatory reaction and causes the vein to disperse naturally in the body. The skin feels warm while the treatment is being undertaken but there is only mild discomfort.
Possible Risks and Side-effects
Redness
There will be some redness to the treated area because microwave currents have been used. This will subside in a few hours and is completely normal.
Small 'pinprick' scabs
These will develop around the treated areas and shouldn't be picked. If the skin feels itchy because of the tiny scabs, use Vaseline. It's vital to use sun block while you're undergoing your treatment.
Recovery
There isn't a fixed recovery time but it's advisable not to have this treatment immediately before a special occasion. It's also best to avoid swimming until your skin has healed.
Success Rate
1-3 treatments are usually required to eradicate the veins, depending on the number and location of veins to be treated.
