Skin Tag, Mole and Cyst Removals
Skin Tags
Annoying skin tags found along your bra strap, on your back or under your arms can easily be removed in less than one hour by freezing or cauterising them so there's virtually no trace left.
Methods of Removal
Freezing
This method is commonly used for skin tags. It involves liquid nitrogen being applied to the tag which is then frozen and so drops off.
Cauterising
This method involves heat being applied to the tag which burns it off and leaves behind a small scab which will heal naturally. The scab must not be picked off or it may leave a scar. A local anaesthetic will be given first so there's no pain.
Moles
In today's world where skin cancer is on the increase, moles need to be regularly checked for changes in their appearance. We can advise you on how to treat any suspicious moles. They can be treated in various ways, including removal, and we always send moles for a full biopsy. Even moles that you are simply self-conscious about can be treated easily with minimal scarring afterwards.
Flat Mole Removal
If the mole is flat then the only method of removing it is to make a small incision, leaving behind a small scar which will heal naturally. It may require 1-3 stitches which will be removed within the first week after the treatment. The area will need to be protected from sunlight during the healing process. In some cases, depending on the type of mole, a laser may be used but this can only be determined after a thorough consultation with a skin specialist.
Raised Mole Removal
If the mole is raised it can either be excised (cut) or shaved off. If the mole is shaved there is always a small chance that it might grow back. The shaving method leaves no scarring and many clients prefer to try this method first, especially if the mole is on the face.
Cysts
A cyst is a collection of fluid in a sac that can be found commonly on the head, body or face. A cyst can become quite large and unsightly, and must not be confused with cystic acne. A cyst will normally respond well to the excision method of removal, leaving a slight scar which is more acceptable than a large unsightly fluid lump.
Possible Risks and Side-effects
The following risks and side-effects may apply to all of the above.
Redness and swelling
Redness and swelling after any of the above treatments are normal and should be expected. They will subside within a few days.
Infection
It's vital to keep the area clean and dry to avoid infection.
Pigmentation changes
When treating skin tags, in some circumstances, depending on the individual's natural skin tone, there can be some loss of pigment in the area that has been treated.
Recovery
There isn't a fixed recovery period and everyone heals differently. Some skin types, like darker skin, take longer to heal. You must avoid sun beds and swimming until healing is complete.
Success Rate
Highly successful! You may have a small scar but this is usually much more acceptable than the cyst or mole that was previously there.
