Pec and Calf Implants
Common in the USA and gaining popularity here, these procedures involve inserting implants to correct male chest defects or to enhance the male chest. The implants we use come from Brazil where pec and calf implants are very popular. In some cases we can custom-make implants to fit a particular chest deformity, so we should be able to help you achieve your ambitions.
Calf implants are also a popular male cosmetic surgery option. Shapely calves appeal to both sexes and if yours are letting you down, it's our job to help you achieve your ideal shape.
Who is it suitable for?
Body builders love pectoral implants, which help them achieve the look they simply can't get through exercise. Men who have suffered a chest deformity from birth enjoy a much more attractive shape. It can correct a ‘pigeon chest' and improve the look and shape of undefined chests that can't be changed by exercise.
What can you expect?
Both of these operations are performed under general anaesthetic and usually require an overnight hospital stay. The implant is inserted behind the pectoral muscle to create a new contoured shape or in the case of a calf implant, behind the knee in the natural crease to give more definition to calves that can't be improved by exercise. Dissolving stitches will probably be used.
Possible Risks and Side-effects
Bleeding
You may get a small collection of blood forming near the implant. This can show itself as a visible swelling which, most of the time, will correct itself. In the unlikely event it doesn't, we can remove it for you at the clinic or hospital on a day-case basis.
Hardening (capsular contraction)
Hardening has been greatly reduced by today's revolutionary new implants. The new breed of implants has a textured coating surrounding the silicone shell, reducing the risk of your body rejecting the foreign material. If your calf or chest area becomes painful or extremely hard, your implants will have to be removed and replaced. Don't worry; we'll look after you throughout the process.
Infection
Infection is rare but presents as swelling, redness and discomfort at the wound site. It can easily be rectified with a course of antibiotics and we'll give you a supply to take home when you're discharged to help prevent infection.
Discomfort
You will experience some discomfort until your new implants settle in. We'll give you painkillers during your hospital stay and when you're discharged, to help keep the discomfort to a minimum.
Recovery
You'll need to wear a special support garment following the operation for 6 weeks. This is to help your implants settle and minimise bruising and swelling. Don't do anything strenuous for 4-6 weeks. We will let you know which activities are safe when we see you for your regular check-ups at 1 and 2 weeks, and, as required, at 3, 6 and 9 months.
Success Rate
It is extremely important to choose the right implant for your body proportions; communication with your surgeon prior to the operation is key. At A New You, we'll arrange for you to discuss your implant choices and placement with your surgeon, and you'll play an important part in choosing the right implant for your body shape. We will show you different shapes and sizes, and you'll be able to try the implants on inside a support vest or a sock before reaching a final decision.
