Laser Tattoo Removal
Lasers are very effective for removing unwanted tattoos. The procedure involves a course of treatments, taken a month apart. It can take 6-12 months to eradicate coloured tattoo inks, depending on their colour. Different lasers are used to treat the different inks. We will advise you which is best for your particular tattoo. Laser removal is much better than using chemicals to burn your tattoo off or cutting it, which can leave unsightly scars or burns. In certain cases, a small tattoo can be cut out leaving an acceptable scar.
Who is it suitable for?
For both men and women over 18.
What can I expect?
A powerful light is emitted from the laser, causing the pigment to disperse over a period of months. The sensation feels like an elastic band snapping on your skin and it's just a temporary discomfort. You should expect to have some small scabs or blisters on the area treated. Don't pick them - it's all part of the healing process.
Possible Risks and Side-effects
Blistering, redness and de-pigmentation
To avoid blistering and de-pigmentation we do a patch test on the tattooed area first, to establish the right energy level for your skin type. In rare circumstances you can lose some pigmentation from the treated area and end up with a slightly lighter skin than the surrounding skin.
Recovery
Expect the treated area to be red. You might have some slight blood spotting after the treatment, which is completely normal. In most circumstances we put a small covering over it to protect it for the first 24 hours.
You will need to avoid swimming and exposure to the sun until your skin has healed. Also, you should use a sun block throughout the course of your treatment.
Success Rate
Black and blue tattoos are the easiest to remove. Brighter colours like green, yellow or white are more difficult to remove. You might need a combination of lasers to get the best results.
