Fat Transfer

Fat transfer is used to correct facial or body irregularities using your own fat. It’s a more natural way to enhance areas such as the cheeks which lose volume as we age.  It is more commonly used to correct depressions in the skin which may have been caused by a scar and is the recommended method of increasing the girth of a penis when having a penis enlargement.

Who is it suitable for?

Fat transfer is suitable for both men and women. It’s often used in conjunction with other procedures such as face-lifting surgery, and can be an ideal way to smooth contours when an individual may have had too much fat taken from an area during liposuction.

What can I expect?

Fat is taken from another fleshy area of the body such as the buttocks or legs and is then purified and reinjected to the area being treated either to give volume or smooth out the area.  Fat transfer can be performed under general or local anaesthetic and is usually undertaken as a day case.

Possible Risks and Side-effects

Bruising and Swelling

Both areas will be swollen immediately after the procedure but will subside within a few days of the transfer.

It is very rare to get an infection as the fat is highly purified.  You will be given a preventative course of antibiotics.

In many cases you can return to work the day after the procedure, but there will be visible bruising and swelling especially if the fat transfer has been in the facial area. If it is performed alongside a face lift you will need at least 2 weeks to recover. With a penis enlargement you will need to allow a few days as the area will be quite sore after the anaesthetic has worn off.

Success Rate

The effects should last for 2-5 years, depending on the area and lifestyle factors.  In most cases, more fat than is needed is harvested in order to get optimum results.  More than one session may be needed, particularly in the case of a penis enlargement.
