Breast Enlargement/Augmentation

Breast enlargement/augmentation is the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure for women and usually takes 60 - 90 minutes, usually under a general anaesthetic with an overnight stay in hospital.  In some circumstances it can be performed as a day case. There are many different shapes and types of breast implant, and it is vital to fully discuss your options. The most common type of implant is a round silicon implant but also available is a tear-drop shaped implant for a more natural look.

Breast Enlargement - Before and After

Who is it Suitable For?

People with the following:

  • Very small breasts which are out of proportion with the rest of your body
  • Breast size and shape that has changed following pregnancy
  • Excessive weight loss resulting in sagging
  • Different sized breasts
  • Returning clients who have already had work done on their breasts

What Can I Expect?

There's normally a 5cm incision which should heal over time into an inconspicuous white scar. You will have bruising and swelling afterwards but arnica tablets and cream are really effective and are recommended. It's advisable to sit propped up with pillows for a week after your operation will help the swelling. It is common for one breast to be more swollen than the other.

Possible Risks and Side Effects

Bleeding

You may get a small collection of blood forming near the implant. This can show itself as a visible swelling, which is normally avoided by inserting drains. This is not always needed - it depends on your individual circumstances, and your surgeon will know what's best. Don't worry, it is fairly common and easy to deal with.

Hardening (capsular contraction)

Hardening has been greatly reduced by new types of implants. The new breed of implants have a textured coating surrounding the silicone shell , reducing the risk of your breasts becoming hard as your body rejects the foreign material. If your breast becomes painful or extremely hard, your implants will have to be removed and replaced.

At A New You we use Nagor implants, complete with a lifetime guarantee against hardening. So you get the peace of mind and reassurance of knowing that if they ever malfunction, you will be given a replacement pair.

Infection

Infection is rare but presents as swelling, redness and discomfort at the wound site. It can easily be rectified with a course of antibiotics. You will be given some to take home with you on your discharge from the hospital to prevent this.

Recovery

Your stitches will dissolve on their own and you can usually return to work within 1-2 weeks. It is important to wear a support bra immediately after the operation and for 6 weeks afterwards, to let your new shape and the implants settle. Don't do anything strenuous for 4-6 weeks. We will let you know which activities are safe when we see you for your regular check-ups at 1 and 2 weeks, 3, 6 and 9 months.

Success Rate

It is extremely important to choose the right implant for your body proportions, and communication with your surgeon prior to the operation is key. At A New You you'll discuss your implant choices and placement at length with your surgeon and you'll play an important part in choosing the right implant for your body shape. We will show you different shapes and sizes, and you'll be able to try the implants on inside a support bra before reaching a final decision.
This is one of the most satisfying cosmetic operations for women and has a very high success and satisfaction rate.
