Getting Rid of Acne

If you’ve ever had a particularly nasty spot you’ll know how distressing it can be. You think everyone’s looking at you, it feels absolutely enormous and your self-confidence really suffers. Having full blown acne is dreadfully distressing and acne isn’t confined to teenagers. Adult acne is just as prevalent as teenage acne and potentially even more difficult to deal with on an emotional level. Men tend to have worse acne than women, and these days, with more and more men taking greater care over their appearance, it’s a growing cosmetic issue. Can you get rid of acne scarring? If so, how?

Cosmetic procedures are often the best answer, when creams and acne preparations have failed. Many of the treatments available today are extremely effective. If you’re in the market for clearer, fresher skin this Christmas, read on.

First, derma roller therapy, which is designed to make the skin repair itself and can improve the appearance of acne scars, ageing and sun damage significantly, which is good news if you’ve had acne and it has left scarring behind. The worse your skin looks, the better the effect. How does it work? By making thousands of microscopic needle holes in your dermis – the top layer of your skin – which forces it to produce fresh new collagen and elastin, ultimately generating fresh, smooth new skin cells.

Then there’s collagen induction therapy, using a similar roller that includes around 200 tiny, incredibly fine surgical stainless steel needles which help open up your skin’s pores for around an hour, allowing the skin to absorb up to 1000 times the usual amount of nutrient-rich moisturising serum. The special serum used in this type of therapy contains a rich blend of vitamins A and C, designed to enhance the skin’s natural collagen and elastin production – 100% natural ingredients that work gently to repair and smooth lumpy, rough acne-scarred skin.

Skin resurfacing, for example via gentle peels, is another popular solution for acne scarring. Peels may involve a chemical solution, usually containing a mild acid, to peel away the top layers of the skin to improve the appearance of acne scars. Peels have been on the market for several years and are a highly effective way to improve the look and feel of acne-scarred skin. Over half a million people have a peel every year and there’s a wide variety of peels available, each with its own benefits.

All of this is great news if you’d love to kick off the New Year with a fresh, new look. Just make sure you talk through the “pros and cons “of each type of treatment, making yourself familiar with any risks before making an informed decision.
